Turkey-Syria Earthquake
RUSH EMERGENCY SUPPLIES TO HELP SAVE LIVES!
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck northern Syria and southern Turkey at 4:17am on February 6, causing widespread devastation. The quake and its subsequent aftershock resulted in over 47,000 deaths and tens of thousands of injuries, particularly in poverty-stricken areas where homes are constructed from light materials.
A partner hospital in the disaster zone is struggling to cope with the influx of injured patients due to power cuts and a shortage of essential supplies such as fuel, medicine, surgical materials, anesthetics, and antibiotics.
The worst is to be feared: according to Adelheid Marschang, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), “23 million people are exposed, including around five million vulnerable populations.”
United Surgeons for Children (USFC) has been supporting the Syrian people through a medical care program since 2012, providing care for thousands of refugee children in Jordan and Lebanon, including those injured during the conflict in Syria.
