Dr. Maurice Enriquez-Sarano, Chairman

Dr. Maurice Enriquez-Sarano is a cardiologist with expertise in heart valve diseases, cardiac imaging and particularly the quantitative assessment of valve regurgitation and their clinical outcome.

Dr. Sarano received his MD degree and medical training from Sorbonne University, Paris, France.  He then joined the Mayo Clinic as consultant cardiologist, was the founding director of the Heart Valve Clinic and Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and was a founding member and past president of the Heart Valve Society.

Dr. Sarano has authored over 500 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters mostly on valvular heart diseases with h-index 107 (Scopus) to 118 (Google) and has mentored numerous medical students and trainees who have become leading scholars in heart valve diseases. He is Senior Scientist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute, directing research and innovations in valve diseases.  He is the founder of ValThera LLC, a startup company aiming at developing innovative transcatheter treatment for tricuspid regurgitation.  His training started with a residency in the cardiology unit of the “Ernest Conseil Hospital” in Tunis, Tunisia and continued interaction with Noth-African Colleagues.

Dr. Sarano is committed to being an active member of “La Chaine de L’espoir” in its endeavor to support the treatment of Children and young adults affected by Valvular Heart Diseases in low-resources countries by direct diagnostic interaction, education and research in the development of high-quality “Heart Teams” in these countries through collegial interactions.
